About Cikananga Wildlife Center (Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu): Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu (YCKT), also known as Cikananga Wildlife Center, is a non-profit organization committed to the conservation of wildlife and its habitat in Indonesia. Established on August 27th, 2001, Cikananga Wildlife Center is divided into three programs: the Wildlife Rescue Center, the Conservation Breeding Centre, and the Sustainability Farming Program.

The Wildlife Rescue Centre (Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Cikananga – PPSC): Focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating animals confiscated by the Indonesian Forestry Ministry. The Centre cares for around 450 individuals from 63 different species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, with numbers fluctuating based on government seizures.

The Breeding Centre (Cikananga Conservation Breeding Centre – CCBC): Specializes in breeding five songbird species and one warty-pig species that are endemic to Indonesia and endangered, with the goal of protecting these species through captive breeding and reintroduction efforts.

The Sustainability Farming Program (Program Pertanian Berkelanjutan Cikananga – PPBC): Established in 2020, this program focuses on food production, organic waste recycling, and compost production. It aims to help local farmers transition to regenerative agricultural practices and support habitat restoration through agroforestry.

The Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and enhancing Cikananga’s daily enrichment program. You will design, implement, and improve enrichment activities for all animals in the wildlife center, ensuring they are provided with physical, cognitive, and sensory stimulation that promote natural behaviours. This role requires creativity, resourcefulness, and a passion for animal welfare. As the Enrichment Coordinator, you will work closely with animal keepers, volunteers, and interns to develop and implement a daily enrichment schedule. You will also supervise and mentor volunteers and interns, ensuring they understand the importance of enrichment and are trained to carry out their tasks effectively. This position reports to the Welfare Manager and collaborates with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily creation and implementation of enrichment for all animals. Observe animal behaviour to assess and encourage desired species-specific behaviours, adjusting the enrichment program accordingly and implementing new enrichment trials. Update enrichment schedules as seasonal resources, animals and behavioural focuses change to always work towards improving welfare within each enclosure. Collaborate with animal keepers and volunteers to ensure the correct placement of enrichment items in the correct enclosures. Regularly assess the effectiveness of enrichment using observations, ethograms, and feedback from staff and volunteers, making adjustments as needed. Regularly add new variety to the existing enrichment schedules to ensure rosters of stimulation expand and remain interesting. Continue and expand medical training for the female orangutan and develop medical training processes for other species as desired as the program evolves. Assess animal enclosures and suggest improvements to optimize interaction and stimulation. Collaborate with staff to implement changes and continually improve animal enclosures. Supervise and mentor volunteers and interns, educating them on the importance of enrichment and natural animal behaviours. Support the Volunteer Coordinator in the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers. Manage the inventory of enrichment supplies and the budget allocated to the program. Assist with writing funding proposals for the enrichment program. Ensure the program remains sustainable and aligned with the center’s resources

Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a wildlife facility, with a strong understanding of enrichment and animal welfare.

  • Mature attitude and proven ability to effectively manage a team of rotating volunteers and interns.

  • Team player and an excellent communicator with people of all ages and a multi-national work force.

  • Knowledge of tools and building techniques to create enrichment items.

  • A commitment to safety for both animals and volunteers.

  • Physically fit and able to pass a medical assessment, if necessary.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

  • Basic proficiency in bahasa Indonesia is highly beneficial but not required. (Can be learned on the job).

  • Creative, resourceful, and self-driven.

  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to work in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Conditions

  • Free shared accommodation (private room with access to a shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room, water, electricity and Wi-Fi) provided at YCKT.

  • Salary: 3.000.000 IDR per month to cover accommodation expenses. (Salary is reduced by 20% during the probation period).

  • Visa costs, and once-a-year a flight ticket will be covered.

  • Full-time work (usually from 7-11 am and 1-4 pm) for six days a week, with flexibility as required.
